Liz Christie is seeking information about her father 88406 Pilot Officer Antony Hayward POW No. 3752 who was taken Prisoner of war when his Hampen I serial AD918 code PL- from 144 Squadron took from RAF North Luffenham on 25/26.08.1941 on Ops to Mannheim and on return to base Flak caused a fire in the plane and Antony baled out near Brussels. The plane crashed at 23.00 near the castle of Puttenburg at Beert. Two Belgians carried him to a house and fetched a doctor but unfortunately the next day the Germans conducted a house to house search and they were obliged to give him up. He was taken to a hospital in Brussels and a kind nurse smuggled a note out in her apron which she got through to his parents, luckily they received this note before the notification from the Air Ministry of the Red Cross. Antony was first taken to
Oflag XC (90) Lubeck from there he was transferred to Oflag VIB (6b)Warburg, Stalag XXI B (21) Schubin and finally to Stalag Luft III Sagen.
Unfortunately the rest of the crew were reported killed in action. They were as follows

Peter Lowe is seeking any information about his father: Flying Officer William James Lowe who was taken Prisoner of war when his Lancaster III serial JA892 code ES- from 49 Squadron took from RAF Fiskerton at 2147 on 17/18.08.1943 on Ops to Peenemunde and due to enemy action was shot down and crashed near Greifswald. Of the 7 crew members 2 were reported killed in action and 5 were taken POW.
The other crew members were as follows:

William James Lowe was taken to Stalag Luft 3 where he remained until the end of the war. During his time at the infamous POW Camp he made all the compasses for those who took part in "The Great Escape".

Andrew Burton is seeking any information about his Uncle, 1395372 Sergeant (Pilot) John *Francis Burton . Son of William J. Burton and of Dorothy Burton (nee Wellby), of Urmston, Manchester. Leaving Exhibitioner Sutton Valence School to Cambridge University (Received his wings at an S.F.T.S Station in Saskatchewan, Canada) who along with the rest of his crew were reported killed when their Wellington III serial BJ823 from 16 OTU took off at 0421 on 27th November 1943 from RAF Upper Heyford for high level Bombing practice over the Preston Cape Ranges. Twelve minutes after take off the Wellington dived and crashed near Culworth 16 miles SW of the centre of Northampton, exploding on impact.
All crew members were killed.
The rest of the crew were as follows;

Douglas Robinson is seeking the relatives of 1800194 Flight Sergeant (Flt. Engr.) Raymond Edgar Hedges who was a crew member of his cousins Lancaster III serial JA853 code MG-L from 7 Squadron which took off from RAF Oakington at 1624 on 16/17.12.1943 on Ops to Berlin and were shot down over Holland en-route to Berlin. The aircraft crashed at Follega Holland with the loss of all crew members. The rest of the crew were as follows:

Bob Carswell is seeking anyone who may have known his father. John McKinley Carswell who, joined the services in 1939 and was formally a motorcycle dispatch rider with the Non Permanent Active Militia in Montreal and later, with the Canadian Army Signal Corps, an officer's driver.
Arrived in England with the first contingent of the Canadian Active Service Force in January 1940. Attended officer school at Cambridge University, EFTS at Hatfield, SFTS at RAF Hullavington and arrived at RAF Wigtown as a Pilot Officer sometime in August 1941 he was a staff pilot, and subsequently, a flight commander of 8 Lysanders when the school was towing targets for the No.2 and No. 3 AGS. Posted to Harrogate in late 1942 as a member of the Navigators Selection Board and then attached to 97 Squadron out of Woodhall Spa as a second pilot on Lancasters. Posted back to Harrogate as a Flight Lieutenant. Released from the RAF became a Flight Lieutenant in the RCAF. He returned to Canada in July 1944 ending up as Station Adjutant (commanding) of No.10 EFTS at Pendleton Ontario.

| 1318564 Sergeant (W/O) E B (Ted) Cachart is looking for anyone who might remember him.or his crew members. Ted was involved in a mid air collision when their Lancaster III serial JB231 code EA-N from 49 Squadron took off from RAF Fiskerton at 2346 on 1/2.01.1944 on Ops to Berlin. As Ted put it they were extremely lucky as they survived a head on collision with another Lancaster, both with a full bomb load and approximately 65 % of the fuel load - unfortunately, the other crew were all killed as far as Ted knows. There were no collision reports from any survivors of aircraft lost or damaged that night. |

Ted was taken POW and was taken to the following during his captivity Stalag IVB -Stalag Luft 6 - Stalag 357 Torun and Fallingbostel his POW Number 1724
The rest of Ted's crew were as follows - all were taken Prisoners of war.
