Adding details to the site in order to find friends or
those who served with relatives during WWII couldn't be easier. It can be done in one of two ways.
You can either e.mail your details to
webmaster@worldwar2exraf.co.uk
or send them by post. (see address below)

Before doing either however, please do take the time to read the following Hints & Tips on adding information.
It can mean the difference between finding those you are looking for or not.

1. PERSONAL INFORMATION

If you are trying to find those who may have served with you or a relative or seeking information from those who may have known relatives, try and gather as much detail about you or your relatives service career as possible. The more relevant details about what you or your relatives did in the RAF as well as where you or your relatives served and when will help a great deal

* Name - (of course). Especially the Christian name that people would remember you or your relative by. It may seem silly to say that but if, for instance, you or your relative were named William were they known as Will, William or Bill? It can make a big difference.

* Nicknames - Did they have a nickname whilst in the RAF. A lot of people will probably remember these more than they will their actual Christian name. Remember however nicknames such as Smudge, Whitey. Lofty etc are all very common in the Forces.
* Initials - Just adding the initials of a person such as L. R. Smith etc. won't help. In fact we have found by past experience that this can be more of a hindrance than a help. I am sure those who I served wouldn't recognise me as L.W.N. Smith, they would as Len Smith. So please ensure you let us have at least one Christian name.
* Surname Only ? Unfortunately we are unable to add any names to the site without having both a Christian name and a Surname, or at least an Initial and Surname.

*Other friends names - (if known) adding those you or your relatives may have served with can help a lot. Especially the names of crew members who may have flown with relatives. You never know there might just be someone out there who may recognise the name. Christian names as well as surnames, or at the very least initials is very important. Just adding Sergeant Smith or Corporal Jones won't help.

2. SERVICE DETAILS

*Aircrew or Ground Crew - were you or your relative Aircrew or Ground Crew - we have notice Boards for both.

*Squadron/s or Unit/s attached to - The majority of people who visit the site looking for those who served in the Royal Air Force during world war 2, first visit either the Squadron or RAF station search pages and look for the names of those who may have served with them there.
Being able to add you or your relatives name to one or both of these pages can help enormously in finding those you or your relative may have served with. It also helps to give an approximate date when you or your relative served with the Squadron or Unit. Don't forget to include all squadrons or units, such as the Squadrons or Units where you or your relative trained (if known).

*Where Stationed - Again being able to add you or your relatives name to the RAF Station search pages can increase the chances of finding those long lost friends, or those who may have served with relatives, considerably. Do include all RAF stations with approximate dates if known.
Just saying that he or she served in India, The Middle East etc. won't help without knowing which RAF station they were based.

*What you or your relatives did in the RAF - for instance were they a mechanic, a driver, Air Gunner, Wireless operator etc. ? Listing what you or your relative did in the RAF can also help.

*Any other relevant information - Perhaps you or your relative was a great piano player who entertained the rest of his Squadron down at the local pub. A lot of airmen will remember this and perhaps put a name to the person they remember. In fact any information you fee is relevant may help. Dates of birth of course won't mean a lot to those who may have served with relatives.

*Service Number - What about service number I hear you ask?
It won't harm to add this, if you know it that is. Although it is not so important as the other factors.
Let's face it would you remember your old pals service number from all those years ago? I certainly couldn't remember any of my old friends numbers (If I ever knew them at all) when I was in the RAF and that was only twenty something years ago.

2. Add a Photo - Adding a photo to your posting as well as the photo gallery can make a difference. As they say "A picture speaks a thousand words." it has been proven time and again that seeing a Photo of someone you served with jogs all sorts of memories.
You may not always remember a name but in the majority of cases a face you never forget.

Due to space and the time involved we can only add Photos to the site for those who have made donations to worldwar2exraf.co.uk  (Maximum of 3 photos)

Photos should be emailed either as a JPEG (*JPG,* JPEG,* JPE,*) or BMP (*BMP, * RLE, *DIB,*) attachment to your email.

Lastly don't forget to add your own name and e.mail address, or contact address if this is not possible.

Oh, and one other thing. It's always wise to take a periodic look through the Photo Gallery.
You never know. One of those faces lurking in the background could easily be your relative or the person you're looking for.
