Alice SmithFirst I would like to apologise for taking a little more time than usual in answering emails over the last few weeks. This was due to my mother suddenly being taken ill, even though she had always been fit and healthy.

Sadly, after only a short time in hospital, she died on the 5th April aged 89.
She will of course be terribly missed by all of her family - including grandchildren and Great grandchildren - but especially by my sister, Avril and myself.

Mum was a remarkable lady who never complained about a thing and who went through the blitz of London, surviving being bombed out twice - but came through with hope in her heart for a better future for the world.
Mum always took a great interest in the website and was in many respects a guiding light of encouragement from it's humble beginnings.
Now she is reunited with Dad, and of course the two daughters she lost during the war - one aged 4 months the other 17 months.

God Bless you Mum

NEW LOOK SITE - NOW ONLINE !

world war 2 ex raf banner

Well no doubt you will have already noticed the new look to the site.
Some of you have already been in touch saying how much you like it. Thanks for that. It is appreciated
I did anticipate that it would take longer to complete but it seems the great God of the web was smiling down on me during the transition.

So What's New?

Well apart from the deign change there are 3 new features and a complete new look to the photo gallery, as well as one or two pages which have been dropped, due to infrequent use, such as the Special Notices Page.

Remembrance Page - This is the first of our new features, which I am sure will be very popular.

As I said in last months News Letter once the new look site was complete there would be a section where a personal tribute could be left for family or friends who served in the RAF during world war 2 as a lasting memory.
You can add photographs and details about their time spent in the RAF, along with memories of what they did throughout their life so that your children, grand children and future generations may know and give thanks to those who gave so much in our darkest hour of need.

If you wish We can even design and add a personal tribute video to your Remembrance page with photos, movies and music of your choice.

Check out the Remembrance Page Here

Glossary of Airforce Slang - Our second new feature is a lighthearted page where you can check out some of the slang words used in the Royal Air Force, both during war time and present day.
A word of caution though; airforce slang can be pretty ripe stuff so browse the glossary with caution. Whilst we aim to keep the content as tasteful as possible some of the language could cause offense to sensitive readers.

Check out the Glossary of Airforce Slang Here

News & Views Blog - We have now added a Blog to the site where we will be adding snippets of news and information about the site or the RAF in general that we feel will be of interest to you and may have come in too late to add to the Monthly News Letter.

Check out the News & Views Blog Here

Photo Gallery - The photo gallery has now had a complete new make over from top to bottom. We now have 2 new sections to both the Aircrew and Ground Crew Photo Gallery.
The Main Photo Gallery which is a standard Thumbnail Page, or Pages as the case may be
The Slide Show Gallery which is a unique way of viewing all the photos in the Gallery as a slide show set to music.

Check it out and see what you think.
At the moment there are over 400 photos listed in the Gallery.

Featured Notice Added - A Special featured notice addition has also been added to every Name search Page. We will be featuring details of someone who is registered on the site with a photo and links to their particular posting as a way of hopefully highlighting their profile. The featured Notice will be changed periodically to give everyone a chance to have their details noticed more. (this only applies to those who have made a donation to the site and who also have a photo included on their posting)

Online Museum - There is still some considerable amount of work still yet to be finished on the upgrade to the Museum so it will take a little while to complete. Of course we will let you know once it is launched.

DONATIONS

As you can imagine, over the last few weeks I have been feeling really down, but last week I was to receive a little relief to my melancholy in the form of a donation for £4.59.
Not a great deal of money I know, but this donation meant a lot to me.
The donation came from the pupils of Skipton Girls' High School who had collected the money in appreciation for the work the site does.
I thought this was a marvelous gesture - and from children too.

As they say it is nice to be appreciated and even nicer when people show their appreciation in the form of a donation to help keep the site going.
As I have said many many times it is only due to donations that worldwar2exraf.co.uk can help the many people we do.

And so to those listed below who have supported not only worldwar2exraf.co.uk but also the RAFA and the RAFBF this Month I would like to thank you all on behalf of everyone who uses this site. Without your help worldwar2exraf.co.uk could not help the many people we do as well as helping the Royal Air Force Association and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund in the great work they do.
