The armed services have always been a rich source of slang and humour.

Two world wars, a plethora of other conflicts and the close proximity of death have added a measure of 'gallows' humour to the nature of service slang, particularly to that of the RAF and the other allied air forces during WW2.

We are fortunate that the Royal Air Force Benevolent fund along with Kerry M. Walsh who originally set up the idea of building a website to harness the power of the Internet to build the definitive on-line glossary of air force slang, has now passed this on to us to continue this great work.

The glossary depends entirely upon your contributions but all submissions will be vetted and, where necessary, edited before being published on the website.

To submit slang words or phrases together with their meanings simply email us using the form below. Your submissions will generally appear in the glossary within a few days.

A word of caution; airforce slang can be pretty ripe stuff so browse the glossary with caution. Whilst we aim to keep the content as tasteful as possible some of the language could cause offense to sensitive readers.
